Nausicaä
I have yet to see a bad Miyazaki film, though Nukes claims they exist.
Miyazaki borrows heavily from his friend Jean Giraud to get Nausicaa’s visual style. It almost seems like a tribute to him.
Great voice cast on the new Disney dub. You get Patrick Stewart and Edward James Olmos!
I also recently watched Voices of a Distant Star, a short 30 minute anime that was written and animated by one guy on his computer. It is a little choppy, but still very impressive when you compare it to an anime produced by an entire studio.

Maybe it should be called “AsleepFall”
I really liked The Longest Journey and I could potentially like Dreamfall. Several hours into it, I realized I wasn’t up for more drawn out cut scenes punctuated by boring puzzles.
I did realize something though: I tend to prefer adventure games featuring a female protagonist as they tend to offer a wider range of dramatic choices and explore the character a lot more. Cyberia is a good example of that.

Restored
I have restored a poem which I had removed last year (or perhaps the year before). It is about four years old now. Unfortunately, it is a true story.
Something Real Status Report
The other night I attended a mixer for Reel Women of Austin, an organization which supports and mentors women filmmakers. I told them about my project and there seemed to be a lot of interest. I got some good information, a lead for a venue and some potential films to consider. It’s really amazing what people are up to in the world. One of the filmmakers is doing a feature on the rise of feminine energy and universal shift predicted by the Mayans.
I’m really concerned about the venue. Originally, I had thought of doing it at the Alamo because it is my favorite theater, but, upon further reflection, I decided on the Regal Arbor Cinema. That’s really the go to place for independent film. So I put in a call today, but the manager was out until Monday.
Then I need to write up a request for submissions, something I don’t have any experience doing. I also need to consider putting up a web site of some kind.
If I stop to think about what I’m trying to do, I get overwhelmed and afraid. So I guess I won’t think about it and just do the next thing that needs to get done.
New Year, New Look
As you can see, I’ve changed the look of the site with this nifty foliage theme created by 5thirtyone.com. I still need to find a good place to put the archives and perhaps an index of all the tags.
Flash Forward
D-Bomb, the Sulpices and I hung out at Nukes’ place last night playing Rock Band and re-watching the last few episodes of Lost Season 3. The situation with the writer’s strike is infuriating. The best case scenario is looking like eight episodes of Lost with no sort of mid-season finale and then nothing for an indefinite amount of time.

The Angst Farmers Rock Once More
I finally secured my own Rock Band set! I also spent a fruitless search driving around town looking for a cheap mic stand and a drum throne. I guess those will show up later.
I’ve gotten stuck in the vocalist solo tour. I ran up against a set list with only one song I know. So now I need to listen to Fall Out Boy, KISS, The Killers and one other band over and over until I learn the lyrics.
