Watched The Fountain in glorious HD. I saw so many more connections this time around. Like following the threads of an intricate tapestry. My experience of reality is much like this film. I’m wired to experience it completely.

The other night, Nick and I had the opportunity to be on one of our favorite podcasts, Jordan, Jesse GO! They have an occasional segment with John Hodgman (The Daily Show, “PC” in the Mac commercials, Neil Gaiman’s Coraline, etc.) where people present complaints and he issues a judgment.
Nick has been goading me to grow a gigantic beard and I have refused, so he called up the show and requested for Judge Hodgman to resolve it.
Here is a link to the show. Our bit starts at around 21:30. The show is saturated with profanity, in case that bothers you, though our segment is pretty clean.
I really enjoyed this movie, but I can understand why some people will hate it. I don’t think a lot of people will consider that when Lucas and Spielberg shift the era in which the story is told, they will also shift the genre to the pulp stories of that time. I think it is too much to expect from today’s audience that they will be familiar with the genre.
To me, it was textbook pulp adventure, blending a lot of familiar themes and stories to give it a classic feel. I think anyone who has made up their mind about what an Indiana Jones movie must be about will be hugely disappointed. But if you take it in context, it is a classic pulp adventure story.

Those of you on an RSS feed will not see the new Twitter widget on my site. I finally gave in to the narcissistic cry of the microblog. Witness stray thoughts caught in a net and reprocessed into bite-size nuggets. Of course, it is only a matter of time before I warp Twitter’s intended use for some deviant purpose, such as a micronovel or esoteric broadcasts from the aether.

How did such a wonderful film escape my notice until now? It reminds me a lot of Illuminata, and not just because John Turturro and Susan Sarandon feature prominently in both. And Paul Giamatti has yet to disappoint. Plus it has the Cusacks! And where else can you see Bill Murray and Tenacious D as 1930s vaudevillians? It feels a lot like a P.T. Anderson film by way of Turturro. Dry and authentic with flashes of humor and magical realism.

Ryan’s company is behind the technology used in Yahoo! oneSearch with Voice. It lets you do searches on your phone by speaking instead of having to type everything. It will eventually be available for the iPhone.
Dave was on the team that created Steven Spielberg’s Boom Blox, what looks like an insanely fun game for the Wii. It was featured on Penny Arcade, which, some might say, is the highest honor one can achieve in the video game world.
In the cardboard realm, a game publisher finally came to their senses and snatched up Dan’s Monkey Lab, a ridiculously fun board game. It will premiere at Essen, but there is no word on a release date. Trust me, you’re going to want to play this.
Speaking of board games, Marc’s Coalescence is now available. It looks really sharp, is easy to learn and provides a lot of challenging fun.
And, finally, I heard that fellow Landmark graduate Jonna will be appearing in Oliver Stone’s film “W“, filming now.
